The one-of-one Dream Project #2 G-Shock G-D001 will be auctioned for charity in New York in December.

Casio officially announced the Dream Project #2 G-Shock G-D001 for the G-Shock 40th Anniversary. As reported earlier, the watch is a one-of-one limited edition model that was created with the help of AI. The development team used a method known as generative design, with AI optimizing the design process. Casio states, “A full-metal shock-resistant structure with a creatively original organic form was achieved using a process of co-creation between human developers and AI.”

The case, bezel, and band are made of 18-karat gold, and the watch is made in Japan and hand polished. The see-through dial without a panel shows the internal mechanism, with this style being a first for G-Shock. The solar power system is equipped with the type of solar cell technology used in satellites, and it harnesses the light from a small gap in the date display. The innovative organic-like form results in weight reduction and enhanced shock absorption, and the watch is fully shock-resistant without the need for any resin buffering.

The specifications for the G-D001 include shock resistance, 200-meter water resistance, solar charging system, Multi-Band 6 radio timekeeping, dual time, stopwatch, visibility assistance for dark locations (solar cell luminescence), and date display. The module number is 5740. The watch comes with an exclusive display case with a sliding front panel. The panels have the names of various G-Shock models and dates with cutaway background spaces to let light through, and the case houses an LED light on the inside.

According to G-Shock creator Kikuo Ibe, the team for Dream Project #2 consisted mostly of younger people backed up by veteran employees. (Dream Project #1 was the G-D5000-9 from 2019.) It will be interesting to see if this new form or any of the new technology make their way into future G-Shock models.
The watch will be sold as a charity item at a Phillips Auction House event in New York City that takes place on December 9 to 10, 2023, with all proceeds to be donated to environmental organizations. Previous reports stated that the closing price is expected to be as high as $140,000 to $150,000.
